Posted by Animals este un album conceptual al formației pink floyd, lansat în 1977. Albumul conține 4 piese, dintre care una, Pigs on the wing, în două părți. Are o structură îndrăgită de formație, prima parte a cântecului Pigs on the wing deschizând albumul, cea de-a doua – desăvârșindu-l.
Vorbim despre un disc cu, unii zic, aluzii și critici la adresa politicii, în special a capitalismului. De asemenea există și ideea că albumul este inspirat din nuvela Ferma animalelor scrisă de George Orwell, unde există tipologiile Dogs, Pigs, Sheep, însă în societatea comunistă. Prefer o abordare mai generală a albumului, pentru că porci câini și oi găsim în orice tip de societate.
Pigs on the wing este, ciudat, un cântec de dragoste, scris de basistul Roger Waters pentru nevastă-sa, despre care se zice că era singura persoană care putea să câștige un argument în fața lui Waters. Titlul vine de la o expresie folosită de piloții din Primul Război Mondial. pigs on the wing, adică un inamic în punctul mort.

A shelter from pigs on the wing. se zice în cântec, o progresie de acorduri pe o ghitară acustică, lipsit de alte instrumente, ulterior legate părțile între ele printrun solo de ghitară interpretat de snowy white.
Brusc, după terminarea primei piese, albumul crează o atmosferă sumbră. Primul cântec, Dogs, și preferatul meu de pe acest disc, are puțin peste 17 minute și spune povestea oamenilor-câini. Se zice în cântec.
You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need.
You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you’re on the street,
You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed.
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight,
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking.

Versurile lui Waters sunt foarte bune, de-aia le-am pus aici. Unul dintre cei mai tari textieri din câți am văzut. deja știm încotro se duce cântecul, iar din punct de vedere muzical, se vede implicarea ghitaristului de geniu david gilmour. sînt în cântec niște țipete de ghitară care întotdeauna îmi lasă o grimasă tare ciudată, ca un pumn în față.
Tot progresiv, discul continuă cu o piesă de 11 minute jumate, Pigs(Three Different Ones).

Se zice că acest cântec este o critică la adresa conducătorilor. Hmm, da, totuși aș avea o altă idee despre „porci” râmând cu râtul în troacă. În piesa pigs găsim o implicare a lui Richard Wright, clăparul pink floyd, care face un intro foarte mișto pentru cântecul ăsta.
A treia piesa progresivă este Sheep, povestea oamenilor-oi care proaste și fără pretenții se cară în turmă așteptând moartea.

Discul se împlinește cu a doua parte din Pigs on the Wing, fără de care Waters zicea că albumul ar fi un protest feroce, întunecat.
Importantă pentru album este și coperta sa, unde se poate vedea centrala electrică Battersea, dominând și fiind dominată de un balon cu heliu în formă de porc, pe nume Algie, care se vede plutind între cele două turnuri.
De asemenea Animals este ultimul album până la celebrul The Wall, pe care îl și anunță întrun fel. Hegemonia lui Waters cât și furia sa crescândă împotriva fanilor (care lansau artificii fiind mega sparți în timp ce el cânta pigs on the wing – what the fuck do you know, zicea waters mai târziu întrun interviu) pregătesc o reacție de genul celei oferite de The Wall.

Roger’s thing is to dominate, but I am happy to stand up for myself and argue vociferously as to the merits of different pieces of music, which is what I did on Animals. I didn’t feel remotely squeezed out of that album. Ninety per cent of the song „Dogs” was mine. That song was almost the whole of one side, so that’s half of Animals.
Iar aci, în sfârșit, albumul, la o calitate rezonabilă.
